G & G Brothers by Kellie Underhill
Growing up in the Blackville area as the daughter of a woods worker, the
name G & G Brothers meant one thing — chainsaws.
Whether you needed a new one, parts for the old one or a trip to the shop
for an overhaul — G & G Brothers was, and still is, the trusted name in chainsaws.
Times have changed though, and G & G Brothers have changed with them.
Today, G & G Brothers Ltd. employs about 25 people and beside the Stihl chainsaws you’ll find garden supplies, tractors,
tillers, push mowers, snow blowers, ATVs, motorcycles, generators and so much more.
"We were a large chainsaw seller back in the late 70’s early 80’s,
when woods working was very big," says Jeff Connell, Manager of the Miramichi location. "We sell a lot of spacing saws now
for silviculture work, a lot more to the homeowner. We’re busy all year round."
"We’re still pretty well the biggest chainsaw dealer here on the
river as far as units and servicing," Jeff adds.
Leonard Breau started selling snowmobiles back in 1974. He had been a school
principal but he quit that job, got married and started his first business.

"I was in business before G & G existed, as Leonard Breau. The main
branch was selling and servicing chain saws," he says. "That’s what I opened in the Miramichi and I had a store here
(in Neguac) that I ran about six months of the year, plus the grocery. I expanded my grocery in 1982."
When Leonard formed the company he had two sons whose names started with
G, so he named his business G & G Brothers after his sons.
They started in the city of Miramichi by Andersons Mill in Newcastle, but
in 1992 moved to their current location in the Newcastle Industrial Park.
"We started by the old Anderson’s place for the first 13 years,"
Leonard says.
"When the chain saw market went down we decided to expand and try to
sell a variety of units," he adds.
Besides Stihl chain saws and trimmers, their selection now includes items
like Troy-Bilt and White Outdoor lawn and garden products.
"We picked up the Kawasaki line back in 1990 and we sell ATV’s, motorcycles
and generators from the Kawasaki line now," Jeff says.

"We carry about
12 different lines. We’re a licensed Briggs & Stratton and Tecumseh dealer for the river, one of only three I think,"
he adds.
Leonard credits hard work and a dedicated staff as being key to the success
of his business.
