Presentation of Maple Leaf Service Pin to Marjorie Reinsborough

This presentation was one of the best moments of my life. It goes from one loving sister to another in memory of a gentlewoman, Annie (Leonard) Carter (deceased). Quote "we never forgot what she could do".

Annie was a loving Mother to her twelve children, a beloved wife to her husband Raymond, a kind and gentle sister and friend.

Annie was especially admired for the strength of her faith. In her younger years she belonged to the Altar Society in Kouchibouguac and was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church.

She was extremely active in the Kinsman club and initiated the building of a school for mentally challenged children in Richibucto. Annie moved to Chatham and was active in CWL work and the Legion of Mary.

Moving back to Kouchibouguac she continued her work for the League as Spiritual Convenor, took care of the Altar linens, and in summer made sure there were flowers for the Church. She continued to do this until the later years of her life.

She was presented with the CWL maple Leaf Pin for her dedication to her Church Community.

Annie Carter was a woman who always smiled back. On her death, the family presented her Maple Leaf Service pin to her sister Marjorie. Marj kept it with her most prized possessions.

This pin was introduced in 1971 for members who have served the League for the length of 7-10 years and have performed Specific Outstanding League service on a one-time basis or over several years.

Our Recipients certainly met the criteria.

Marjorie Reinsborough has the same dedication to the League, as did her sister Annie. Throughout her years in the CWL Marj has held positions in Organisation, First Vice, President Elect, Telephone Convenor, Secretary and numerous other positions.

Marj has constantly done the work of the CWL Parish Community as Communion Assistant, Spearheaded work at Conventions, volunteered for work crews, Hospital visits, kitchen helper, Canvassed for all worthy causes and like her sister, "Smiled all the while".

Marj attended many conventions showing her love for the League. She is a truly dedicated League Member. Sisters they were’ who shared the same love of Church and Community.

When suggested that Marjorie be presented with the Maple Leaf I contacted our Diocesan President Marion Fogan and explained our dilemma. Marjorie had a pin but could not wear it unless presented.

I requested that instead of purchasing another we be granted the authority to pin Marjorie with her sister Annie’s. This would mean more to her because there is so much love and so many memories in this specific Pin. Marjorie is a truly worthy recipient.

The Catholic Women’s League is proud of all Marjorie endeavour’s and officially present her with Annie’s pin.

Wear this Maple Leaf with pride Marj. Annie knows it will be there right over your heart where she wanted it to be.

Congratulations!

Diocesan Table Officer’s meeting

Fall has arrived and brought with it a flurry of activity. The kick off was the Diocesan Table Officer’s meeting held on the 20th September 2003 at St. Raphael’s Church Hall in Blackville.

Our Spiritual Advisor, Fr. Donovan, named many challenges for us. Our President, Marian Fogan chaired the meeting and spoke on courtesy and belonging.

Rosemary Gorman, Chairperson for Spiritual Development, gave a beautiful prayer program in which we all participated.

Past President Mary Pilgrim spoke on the funeral service of Mrs. Florence McCallum of Saint Michael’s, Miramichi. " Toots" McCallum will never be forgotten. Mary also spoke on the sadness that we feel when we lose any member from our Council’s.

A Retreat For the Catholic Women’s League will be held from Tuesday October 28th to Thursday 30th, 2003. Presenter is Sister Grace McSheffrey SCIC and the topic is:

"Women’s spirituality grounded in Hope". Registration is through Rosemary Gorman, Chairperson, and Diocesan Spiritual Development. Contact number is 472-2967. Sister Grace will use models of women in the Scriptures and contemporary society to illustrate ways in which women use their Spirit-given gifts to help "renew the face of the earth".
