Avoiding Bird-Window Crashes
by Theresa McIsaac
Autumn is upon us and with the changing of the leaves, people are getting
their bird feeders cleaned and ready for their feathered friends.
All too often though the joy of watching birds feeding, is marred by a
loud thud, as one of them flies into your window. A few simple changes can help avoid this problem.
Try moving your feeder away from the offending window.
If this is not possible then go outside and look at the window from a bird's
eye view, try to see why they fly into it. Maybe it is reflecting the landscape behind it, if so then you'll need to
alter the appearance of the glass by placing something on the outside. This can be as simple as attaching strings of
ribbons or mobiles in front of it.
Your window might be transparent however and the birds get confused
believing they can fly through it.
If this is the case, try taping silhouettes of hawks or anything you prefer
on the inside.
These simple solutions can help ensure your bird-viewing pleasure and avoid
needless bird deaths.
