The HUGS Lifestyle Program

There will be a HUGS Information Session on Wednesday, May 21st from 7-9pm at Carrefour Beausoleil. Registered Dietician, Lucy McCray will facilitate the adult group.

The HUGS program promotes a diet-free lifestyle focusing on health, nourishing eating and activity patterns, and self-acceptance rather than dieting and weight loss. It is Health focused, centred on Understanding lifestyle behaviours, Group supported, and Self-esteem building. HUGS programs and workshops are based on three books: You Count, Calories Don't; Staying Off the Diet Roller Coaster; and Tailoring Your Tastes.

HUGS started in 1987 by registered dietician, Linda Omichinski. Searching for a more effective way to assist clients in her private and consulting practice, Linda developed a group counselling format on the empowerment model that emphasised eating for energy, physical activity for fun and self acceptance of genetic size and shape variations.
