We are blessed to live in this wonderful area known as the Miramichi. Some refer to us as belonging to a “Secret Order” with members only being born on the Miramichi. When we leave the Miramichi a piece of our heart stays here. We work hard just to return to our home and feel the Miramichi’s warmth. We can walk along the river and enjoy the wide-open spaces. Did you ever wonder how many people could do this? You can go shopping and spend hours talking with friends. You can wander through the woods for the sheer enjoyment. You can say “hello” to people on the street and get “hello” back. Many of us have been in other areas where you do not get any response to your greeting. If you need help you can call a friend who will understand. Here on the river, friendship is for life.

The seasons are normally predictable. We can all “connect the dots” to find our relatives and friends. Our genealogy is much easier than others. We do not have much immigration as the pay is low and outsiders find our weather a bit hard to take. Our politics are rough and the toughest survive. The humour on this great River is second to none and our singers and songwriters are talented and ready to assist in any fundraiser that is organised. Our Miramichi Parks are free! “GIVING” is the magic word. The famous people of this river are widely known. This will be discussed in a later issue. In closing please read this carefully BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE, HOLD YOUR HEAD HIGH, HONOUR YOUR MIRAMICHI ROOTS AND REMEMBER WE ARE THE MIRAMICHI!
